EFFECT OF AGE & SEX ON MORPHOMETRIC EVALUATION OF ACETABULAR WIDTH AND DEPTH– A PLAIN CT BASED STUDY.
Abstract
Background: The anatomical parameters of hip joint will be of immense importance to orthopedicians, radiologists and prosthetists. These parameters help in designing patient specific implants and can be utilized to understand etiopathogenesis of osteoarthritis.
Methods: It was a hospital based observational study conducted for the period of one year starting form 17th september 2015 to 16th september 2016. The study population included all patients in the age group of 18 years and above submitting to the department of Radiodiagnosis for either abdominal, lower spinal or non orthopaedic pathology of pelvic and hip region.
Results: There are no differences in acetabular depth in males and females. No significant difference in left and right side of acetabular depth is noticed (p- value> 0.05). Width is found to be more in males as compared to females.
Conclusion: There is no significant side to side difference in acetabular depth of male and female and depth don’t change significantly with age. Male have deeper acetabulam as compared to female. There is no significant side to side difference in acetabular width of male and female and width don’t change significantly with age. Male have wider acetabulam as compared to female.
